GT Produce has demonstrated its continuing dedication to the requirements of customers and investment in the wholesale sector. The company identified its customers’ need to access market information and have contact with the sales team at different times of the day compared to a traditional wholesale operation.
Managers, staff and customers contributed to the decision-making to reorganise working practices. The company restructured its working day, increased the size of its cold store, and modernised its transport fleet.
As a result, GT Produce extended opening hours by 100 per cent, increased customer contact and information, while at the same time reducing transport costs. The introduction of a five-day week for sales staff who previously worked six days a week makes a real change to their lives, and hopefully will help encourage younger recruits to the wholesale industry.
Judges’ comment: "GT Produce had a clear customer strategy and was prepared to re-work the traditional market processes to enhance overall customer experience and maintain competitiveness."
